Originally released in 1980 this is one of the additional models in the Tonka Clutch Popper series. A stylised version of a Ford Pickup (most likely the F150 series) , just called ‘Pickup’ on the original packaging. Good looking pressed steel toy car with or without decals/stickers (the picture above has the hood sticker removed), all models came with the ‘Turbo sound’ feature. Probably not quite to the style level of the Chevy models but not too shabby considering it’s a Pickup truck. Less steel than the Chevy’s due to only the cab section being steel, the back tray being plastic. These cars have the same rear and front wheel dimension compared to the Chevy models. This is to keep it true in form to the original car. One of the key differences between this and the other Clutch Popper models is the front wheel drive. The motor drives the front axle (so the rubber wheels are on the front, plastic on the back), and the axle is further forward to the main motor and gearing’s compared to the Chevy models/standard motor. The front wheel drive also helps this model not suffer from ‘spin out’ as much with high speed.
